Vintage 1960s-Era 14k Gold Opal, Amethyst, Emerald, & Garnet Butterfly Pendant

Sourced from a Fountain Valley, California estate of 1960s-era gold jewelry, this vintage 14k yellow gold butterfly pendant features a delicate pear shaped Australian opal that flashes green and blue colors, mounted in the butterfly's body; each wing is accented by a faceted round purple amethyst, green emerald, and brownish-red garnet.

The pendant itself is dainty, measuring just over half of an inch long by two-thirds of an inch wide.  A fringed, gear-like design decorates the edges of the butterfly's wings, an element popular for jewelry produced during the Mid-Century period.

Two loops behind the butterfly's antennae form the bail, fit for up to a 2.75mm chain to run through; this subtly pushes the top of the pendant forward when worn on the chest or against the neck, giving a playful impression that the butterfly is alive and walking on the clothing or skin beneath it.

18” gold-plated sterling silver box-style chain included.
