Quick Answers

What's the Difference Between a Necklace and a Pendant?

At OpalPop, necklaces come with an included chain that matches the pendant's metal—whether sterling silver, gold, or platinum. These are sold as complete, intentional pieces.

Pendants, on the other hand, are standalone. Each one includes a complimentary presentation chain, typically sterling silver, for convenience and immediate wear. These chains are lightweight and intended for display or temporary use—if you plan to wear your pendant regularly, we recommend pairing it with a chain of your choice for added durability and style.

Do Your Opal Pendants Come With a Chain?

Yes—every OpalPop pendant includes a complementary display chain, usually made from sterling silver, unless otherwise noted in the pendant's product description. These are lightweight chains provided for convenience and presentation. If you plan to wear the pendant frequently, we recommend pairing it with a chain of your choice for long-term use.

Most pendants and necklaces come with the chain shown in the photos, but not all. Please refer to the product page description for specific chain details.

Can I Request a Different Chain Style or Length?

At this time, OpalPop does not offer alternate chain styles or lengths by request. Chains are individually selected to complement each opal necklace, often at the time the piece is sourced—ensuring a cohesive, intentional design.

In some cases, our jeweler may be able to shorten a chain upon request. If you have specific needs, feel free to contact us prior to placing your order, and we'll do our best to help.

Can I Get My Opal Necklace Wet?

Yes—most solid opal necklaces are safe to get wet during everyday wear. But there are a few important exceptions:

Ethiopian opal necklaces may absorb water, which can cause temporary change in appearance. Most return to normal over time, but in rare cases, the change may be permanent.

Opal doublet and triplet necklaces should always be kept dry. These layered stones are bonded with adhesive, and moisture can seep between the layers, leading to fogging or permanent damage.

How Should I Clean My Opal Necklace?

Most solid opal necklaces can be gently cleaned using warm water, mild hand soap, and a soft-bristled toothbrush.

If your necklace features an Ethiopian opal, opal doublet, or opal triplet, avoid submerging it completely. Instead, dampen your toothbrush and carefully clean the surface of the opal and its setting. These types of opals are more sensitive to moisture and should be cleaned with care.

Chains can be cleaned the same way, or using most standard jewelry cleaning solutions—just be sure to follow product instructions and avoid harsh chemicals near the opal itself.

Do Your Product Photos Accurately Represent the Opals?

Yes—every OpalPop necklace is photographed and color-edited in-house to reflect the opal's true appearance under both natural sunlight and studio lighting. Our photos are captured by a Certified Gemologist with extensive experience in opal photography, ensuring lifelike color representation and clarity.

When a stone is especially tricky to photograph, we lean toward honesty over hype—we choose to understate opals photographed for product listings rather than overstate their brilliance. We also highlight any notable inclusions or natural features that make your stone one of a kind.

Our goal is simple: for you to be even more impressed when your necklace arrives than when you saw it online.

Does My OpalPop Order Include Shipping Insurance?

Yes—all U.S. orders come with free shipping, full insurance, and tracking. For extra peace of mind, any order over $300 will also require a signature upon delivery.

In the rare event that a shipment is lost in transit, OpalPop will handle the claim process directly with our third-party shipping insurance partners. If a claim is awarded, the entire approved amount will be refunded to your original payment method.

We've worked through this process before and know how to navigate it efficiently to ensure the best outcome for our customers.
