Sourced directly from aspiring new Pennsylvania-based opal cutter and silversmith, Michael Schaner, this sterling silver medallion pendant features two natural Australian opals, hand-cut from rough stones Michael acquired directly from Australia. Mounted against a solid, textured backdrop in two textured bezel settings, the pendant was thoughtfully designed to reduce light reflections and allow the vertically-stacked opals to take center focus.

In the top mounting, a blue-appearing semi-crystal opal is seen. When viewed closely under direct bright light, a finely-compact spray of glittery blue and green play-of-color is seen, like stars in the night sky. A single natural black pinpoint inclusion in the opal is eye-visible, as are two broad areas of muted surface polish along the top of the stone—both imperfections that only add charm for those who appreciate the hands of Mother Nature and the independent American artist.

Mounted below rests an opal lighter in visual appearance and more forward with its play-of-color; strong flashes of orange and yellow play broadly across the stone with green and blue overtones in the light against a gray, semi-crystal body. Magentas subtly appear in the light when viewed from specific angles.

The pendant's rounded profile measures just under one full inch in diameter from the edges of its rope-accented border, similar to the size of a US quarter coin, striking just the right balance between masculine and sleek; its large bail can make the piece well-suited for a man's chain or cord up to 6mm in width, though the medallion's subtle profile also allows it to be well-complemented by a more delicate chain if desired.
