A true marvel of Mother Nature to behold, this exceptional Australian opal—sourced from the Lambina Opal Fields, a locale known for producing notably fine quality material in the 1980s and 1990s before permanently closing in 2014—is large in size, measuring just under an inch long by just under an inch wide from its longest and widest points.
Weighing approximately 13 carats and offering considerable surface area for color to play across its freeform-shaped profile, greens are both present and even vibrant across a spectrum of lighting conditions, including low-light environments. Blue undertones complement these greens when viewing the pendant under brighter light sources, adding further dimension to the opal's presence.
Purchased by OpalPop from a San Antonio, Texas collector, the opal's mounting is a rather curious choice: a base-metal wire wrapped pendant with 18k yellow gold plating and a light, feminine design that measures over 2.5 inches in length from the top of its bail. It is presumed that the pendant is modern, likely made by an American opal cutter who sourced the rough stone, cut it, and made what practical piece of jewelry from the finished opal they knew how.
