Rainbow Fish | Carved Australian Opal Fish & Diamond Pendant in 14k Gold, Vintage c.1980s

Discovered in a Franklin, Tennessee estate of vintage 1980s-era nautical jewelry, this presumedly American-made pendant features a natural Australian opal fish carving set into a solid 14k gold pendant frame.  The frame appears to be custom made, creatively incorporating gold curves that surround the fish and give the impression of rolling ocean waves; five round brilliant cut diamonds weighing an estimated combined total of 0.10ct are reminiscent of bubbles, further playing into this aquatic motif.  From the top of its bail to the bottom of the design, the pendant measures approximately 1.5 inches long by 0.9 inch wide.

It is worth noting that the opal is not perfect—an eye-visible crack runs through the back of the fish's body leading from the prong, an imperfection that likely originates from when the opal was originally mounted.  This imperfection appears most noticeable in low-light environments; one photo captures this well from a close-up macro angle.
