In the case of this pear shaped Australian opal ring, what initially seems simple and ordinary in apperance deceives; when hit by a bright light and viewed from just the perfect angles, the entirety of the stone's surface activates, lighting up with an intense, neon-red ray. Depending on the light's intensity and viewing angle, this red color morphs into orange, and under certain circumstances, the far edges of the orange turn to green.
In its resting state, the opal sits quietly, its N6-dark body tone most apparent. A natural, eye-visible black gypsum marbling inclusion gives the otherwise completely-gray surface a unique thumbprint of its own.
Handcrafted in Pennsylvania by aspiring new opal cutter and silversmith, Michael Schaner, the surface of the bezel-set silver solitaire setting shows evident signs of workmanship and tooling—imperfect to some, but a reminder of independent American passion and craftsmanship for those who appreciate it. The Lightning Ridge opal rough, hand-cut by Michael's in his private studio, was acquired by the legendary Australian opal authority, Black Opal Direct.
