Kleo is a vintage Japanese platinum ring centered by a 3.54-carat Australian light opal with a softly luminous, semi-crystal body. Ten natural round diamonds frame the opal, five from either side, giving the pale center stone added definition and importance without overpowering it. The result is a ring that feels substantial and refined rather than oversized or theatrical.
Its play-of-color is gentle and shimmery rather than intensely bright. Indoors and in lower light, green is usually the most noticeable color, with soft orange and blue appearing beneath it. In sunlight, the greens brighten while orange and yellow become more visible and intermingle across the stone. Under more direct bright light, the balance can reverse, with orange concentrating around the outer portions of the opal while green and blue move into supporting roles.
The opal’s light N8 body tone and semi-crystal transparency give these colors a sense of depth rather than simply placing them on the surface. Viewed closely in brighter light, the play-of-color appears to move through the stone itself, giving Kleo a soft, almost shimmering quality that changes noticeably with angle and environment.
The setting becomes considerably more architectural when viewed from the side. Layered platinum elements rise from the shoulders in compact, angular chevron forms, creating a dense, structural gallery beneath the opal. Crafted in solid Pt900 platinum, Kleo weighs approximately 7.23 grams and is hallmarked “Pt900,” “3.54,” and “D0.14,” recording the platinum purity, opal weight, and total diamond weight. The ring was sourced through one of OpalPop’s established Tokyo estate-jewelry sources and dates approximately to the 1980s. It arrived in strong condition and was professionally cleaned, polished, and checked for stone security by our Anaheim jeweler.
