An Empty Yowah Nut Boulder Opal Necklace with Flashes of Color Play

One-half of a geologic wonder from the Queensland town of Yowah, Australia, this sterling silver boulder opal necklace features fine veins of red and green color play that light up like subtle sparks through-and-around a light brown potch node.

Yowah nuts are a variety of boulder opal that form much like a geode, with an outer ironstone crust that surrounds an inner core, or node.  Very rarely, this core can contain precious opal with incredibly valuable color play—though most often, the core is filled with what's known as "potch", a variety of opal that lacks traditional precious color play.
