A Yellow Gold Opal Cocktail Ring
Someone went through a great amount of effort to convince others that this Australian opal ring is 18 karat gold. Discovered in a Japanese pawn lot, the inside of the ring's shank is stamped '18K'; in addition, the piece appears to be plated in an attractive high karat yellow gold. It is prong-and-epoxy-set with an attractively large and colorful natural white opal. In spite of these convincing details, the piece tests as solid 10 karat yellow gold.
