Meet Hikari,

An Australian Crystal Opal and Diamond Necklace That Radiates Light From Within

Crafted in solid platinum and weighing over 10 grams, Hikari—Japanese for “light”—is a substantial Art Deco–inspired pendant defined by both presence and precision.  Its bold, symmetrical frame reflects light with intention, creating a sculptural silhouette that reads as confident from across the room.  Pieces of this scale—combining meaningful platinum weight, architectural design, and a large-format Australian opal—are increasingly difficult to source in today’s market.

At its center rests a 7.00 carat crystal opal from Coober Pedy, Australia.  Unlike darker opals prized for contrast, this stone reveals its color through light itself—its semi-translucent body allowing vivid green fire, along with soft orange and blue undertones, to emerge with movement.  The effect is layered and dimensional, offering a quieter but more immersive play of color that shifts as the pendant is worn.

The design draws from the geometric clarity of 1930s Art Deco, reinterpreted through the lens of late 20th-century Japanese platinum work.  During this period, Japanese jewelers became known for their ability to cast and finish platinum with exceptional precision, resulting in pieces that feel both exacting and expressive.  Here, that mastery is evident in the clean structure, balanced proportions, and the deliberate use of weight to give the pendant a grounded, enduring feel.

A halo of 0.54 carats of VS1 diamonds frames the opal in an architectural arrangement, echoing and amplifying the way light interacts with the stone.  Measuring 1.33 inches in length, the pendant has a scale that allows it to stand on its own—equally suited to being worn as a statement piece or appreciated as a collectible object.

Under direct illumination, subtle internal inclusions become visible within the opal, forming faint, flower-like patterns.  These details remain largely hidden in everyday wear, offering a quieter layer of complexity that reveals itself only under closer inspection.

An 18” sterling silver chain is included for immediate wear.
